Landmark Meeting to Establish a Corneal Eye Bank at Sardar Trust Eye Hospital (STEH)
    STEH

A significant meeting was recently held between Mr. Collin Ross, Vice President of Global Development at Eversight USA, and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ali A. Sadiq, Principal SIAHS and Senior Faculty Member Sardar Trust Eye Hospital (STEH), to discuss a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at establishing a Corneal Eye Bank at STEH.

Eversight, a globally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to restoring sight through corneal transplantation, research, and community programs, expressed a strong interest in supporting Sardar Trust’s mission to combat preventable blindness in Pakistan.

The meeting focused on developing a partnership framework, building institutional capacity, and ensuring compliance with the technical and ethical protocols necessary to establish and operate a state-of-the-art eye bank in alignment with international best practices. Both sides emphasized the urgent need for improved access to corneal tissue in Pakistan, where the burden of corneal blindness remains significantly high, particularly among underserved populations.

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ali A. Sadiq highlighted the hospital’s robust infrastructure, clinical expertise, and extensive community outreach programs, underscoring Sardar Trust’s long-term commitment to expanding its services through sustainable and impactful collaborations.

The proposed Corneal Eye Bank will serve as a vital national and regional resource, facilitating timely and high-quality corneal transplants, while also advancing research, training, and public awareness on the importance of eye donation.

This meeting represents a key milestone in the journey of Sardar Trust Eye Hospital toward becoming a leading center of excellence in ophthalmic care, innovation, and community service.
